The Blue Lagoon Spa

If you’re looking for a traditional geothermal seawater spa experience, then look no further than The Blue Lagoon, at Grindavik in Iceland. Set in an area of natural beauty, the Blue Lagoon is one of the most popular natural spa experiences in Iceland and attracts thousands of visitors each year.

The seawater contains a range of active ingredients, including mineral water, algae and silica, and they’re believed to have a beneficial effect on the skin, as well as calming the mind, body and soul. As well as enjoying the sensation of bathing in the healing waters, you’re also surrounded by their famous white silica mud and it’s recommended that you amply apply it to your skin. Bathing in the natural waters is the primary attraction, but as an added bonus there’s also a sauna with spectacular views of the lagoon, a white-walled steam bath and a unique and cosy steam bath contained in a specially carved out lava cave.

For those wanting an extra pampering treatment, you can arrange to have massages and other spa treatments performed by a professional therapist. All the treatments take place in the lagoon, on a carefully designed wooden bench or a mattress. Because the area is so large, more than one treatment can be carried out at once. This makes it perfect for couples wanting to relax together, or family or friends who want to enjoy the experience at the same time.

The Blue Lagoon is so different to many of the spas on offer today and it’s certainly an experience you won’t forget!
